CBS在新喜劇上表現無力下把歪腦筋動到《生活大爆炸 The Big Bang Theory》的Sheldon身上，早前他們宣佈開發《生活大爆炸》衍生前傳劇，現CBS確定預訂命名爲《小謝爾頓 Young Sheldon》的衍生劇，顧名思義就是以Sheldon Cooper 爲主角。該劇定於17-18年度播出。
這部喜劇主角不是Sheldon成年版，而是以他9歲時爲背景，劇集也會以《馬爾柯姆的一家 Malcolm in the Middle》的單鏡頭家庭喜劇方式製作，講述Sheldon當年在德州東部的家庭及學校生活。Chuck Lorre與Bill Prady爲主創兼執行製片﹑Steve Molaro﹑Todd Spiewak與在《生活大爆炸》飾演Sheldon的Jim Parsons爲製作人兼執行製片。
